Plastic bags are widely used in supermarkets. The government has taken steps to reduce its usage, still the number of plastic that ends up in the land fill. Here are the reasons why plastic is causing harm to the environment.

We throw away plastic bags and bottles every day. These plastics end up in sites near forests, rivers, etc. Some of these are recycled in various recycling centers. But others stay there as wastes.

They don’t break down

Plastics are not biodegradable. That is, they will never disappear. They contaminate the soil and water. They also cause harm to the animals as they might eat fragments of plastics. Recycling is an option, but it uses a lot of energy. An easy option is to lower down the use of plastics in our everyday life. We should use alternative packaging options to reduce environmental pollution.

Cause harm to the aquatic life

Some of the plastics thrown end up in the ocean. You will see thousands of pieces of plastic floating in the ocean. Many sea animals and birds like whales, dolphins, seals, etc. can die because of the polluted water.

They need oil for production

Plastic bags need to use up natural resources like oil for production. Every year millions of barrels are oils are used for the production of plastic bags.

We all should reduce the use of plastic bags and bottles. These are very harmful to the environment. We should think of alternative options.
