5 Reasons Why Deforestation Takes Place
Deforestation can harm our environment in many ways. One of the major consequences of deforestation is climate change. These are the main causes of deforestation.
Commercial agriculture
When crops are grown on a commercial scale, deforestation occurs. The forests are cleared for tree plantation and cropland. For example, soya and sugarcane production will require millions of hectares of land that must be cleared for agricultural purposes in future.
Logging for timber
Timber is extracted for logging. The government has taken some measures for preventing illegal logging. Still, we must come up with some alternative means and stop deforestation.
Building infrastructure
The construction of roads and buildings cause deforestation. Trees are cut to make way for roads and build homes and offices. Because of increase in population and the need to urbanize, deforestation is taking place.
Forest fire
In many places, forest fires cause the destruction of forests causing deforestation. This also releases greenhouse gases that affect the climate. Forest fires can have a negative impact on health as well due to the release of clouds of soot and carbon dioxide.
Production of charcoal
Charcoal is produced in Africa. Due to poverty, people cut down trees for cooking. This causes deforestation. The hardwood trees are mostly cut for charcoal production.
Deforestation has a major impact on the environment. It reduces the supply of fresh oxygen, emits harmful greenhouse gases and results in climate change which may have a devastating effect on the environment. We should think of alternative ways of obtaining things so that deforestation can be stopped.…
